No major Hollywood player has positioned itself as decisively in the micro-drama market as Fox Entertainment. While Netflix is watching, Disney is investing through accelerator programs, and Paramount is relying on partnerships, Fox has gone all in – with an equity stake, concrete production plans, and a clear content pipeline.

The Holywater Deal: Equity Instead of Experiment

In October 2025, Fox Entertainment acquired an equity stake in the Ukrainian micro-drama specialist Holywater. The company operates two platforms: MyDrama for human-produced micro dramas and MyMuse as a dedicated hub for AI-generated content.

The deal goes far beyond a loose partnership:

  • Fox and Holywater plan to produce more than 200 vertical video titles within two years.
  • Holywater gets access to Fox IP for vertical format adaptations – an enormous lever that gives the startup access to established franchises.
  • Fox uses Holywater's expertise in micro-drama production and distribution to enter the market quickly.

Holywater itself has established itself in a short time as one of the most relevant non-Chinese players in the market. In July 2026, the company published an extensive industry report documenting the maturation of the market. According to Holywater, the weekly viewing time of "heavy viewers" has increased from 9.5 to 13.1 hours since the beginning of 2026 – almost two hours a day.

The Dhar Mann Deal: Creator Power for Micro Dramas

In January 2026, the next move followed: Fox announced a deal with YouTuber Dhar Mann. His studio is to produce at least 40 micro dramas for release on MyDrama and on Fox channels.

The choice of Dhar Mann is strategically well thought out: his short films set in the teenage milieu reach audiences in the millions on YouTube and already resemble micro dramas in production quality and subject matter (love, betrayal, bullying) – except that with Dhar Mann every story ends with a moral message. Fox thus combines the reach of an established creator with the micro-drama format.

Why Fox Is Taking a More Aggressive Approach Than the Competition

Fox's strategy differs fundamentally from that of the other major players:

No Streaming Platform of Its Own to Protect

Unlike Netflix, Disney, and Paramount, Fox does not operate a major streaming platform of its own that could be cannibalized by micro dramas. This gives the company more freedom in its strategic direction.

Focus on Production Rather Than Distribution

Fox is not investing in its own micro-drama app, but in production capacity and IP exploitation. The company leaves distribution to Holywater and other platforms. This is capital-efficient and plays to Fox's core competence.

AI as a Differentiator

Through its stake in Holywater – which operates a dedicated AI content hub with MyMuse – Fox is also positioning itself in AI-based content production. The Fox backing is at the same time a strong validation signal for the entire market: when a Hollywood major invests in AI-generated micro dramas, the format has arrived in the mainstream.

The Audience Is Changing

Holywater's data shows a remarkable shift in the target audience:

  • The young audience of 22- to 27-year-olds has more than tripled in the past 15 months.
  • The share of men, which was still at 1% less than two years ago, now makes up 30% of users.
  • Holywater writes: "Typical micro-drama users are getting younger and younger, and the newcomers don't want what the older ones wanted."

For Fox, this is a decisive signal: micro dramas are evolving from a niche format for women 35+ into a mainstream entertainment format with a broad demographic base.

The "House of Cards" Moment

Holywater co-founder Anatolii Kasianov publicly dreams of a "House of Cards" moment for the industry – the point at which people no longer open micro-drama apps only because marketing millions brought them there, but because they want to see "well-known IP, offshoots and spin-offs of popular franchises, celebrities, and showrunners." With Fox's IP library and Holywater's platform, exactly this vision could become reality.

Conclusion: Fox as a Pioneer

Fox Entertainment is the boldest of the major Hollywood players in the micro-drama market. With an equity stake, more than 200 planned titles, IP access, and a creator deal, Fox has created more concrete facts than Netflix, Disney, and Paramount combined. The question is no longer whether Fox will succeed in the micro-drama market – but how quickly.
